Sunday 4th August 2013: Open Session (Hosted by Ed Ritchie)
Ah, the festival eh? That time of year when nearly every open mic shuts down for a month whilst their venues are used for other purposes. Well not us. We’ll be on every Sunday throughout the fringe, just waiting for you to bring us your songs. As a statement of intent, this first Sunday of the festival will be a completely open session with no featured act.
(Visiting from out of town? You’re really very welcome to come and join in, either as an audience member or a performer!)

Yes, I’m hosting this tomorrow! If you’d like to play, I strongly advise getting down there early (say 7:30-7:45) as I think it could be very busy.
TODAY: I’m playing at HMV Garden (pop-up venue in the basement of Princes St HMV)! I’ll be on at 2pm. There’s art and plants and some other musicians (including Lach!!) playing too. Here’s the Facebook event.
Also tomorrow: I’m playing on the Terrace Stage in George Street! It’s next to the Spiegeltent near the Assembly Rooms. I’m on at 1pm.
More gigs coming!

Jonathan Rado - Faces

One of the bands that have been a regular fixture to our blog so far this year is the excellent Foxygen.

Their work rate is second to none, since releasing Take The Kids Off Broadway last year. The band made a quick return with We Are The 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic, undoubtedly one of our favourite albums so far this year.

Aside from the release of that record, frontman Jonathan Rado also has his own solo LP Law and Order due out in September. Faces is the first single taken from the record.

Until the full length album comes out, you can listen to more of Rado’s solo material here.

p.s. Lar is currently not blogging as she is internet-less, however I think she would approve of this one.

You need French Disko in your life.

perpetua:

I made a guide to Stereolab’s body of work on BuzzFeed last week. Going on the reception, it seems almost futile to get anyone under the age of 28 to even listen to this band. If you are in your teens or 20s, please give them a chance because you will probably find something to love, or possibly one of your new favorite bands.

Saigon - Night Fever

This Stockholm quintet - Siri Jennefelt, Oskar Carls, Linus Hillborg, Vilhelm Bromander & Dennis Egberth - enjoy exploring the dark side of pop in their music. With this beautiful new video directed by Kevin Luna they dig into the idea of what happens when a young fella falls for an older, badder girl. We all know how this ends. #lossofinnocence

The group has appeared on release on tape lables Quaset and Zeon Light, but this is the first single from their upcoming full length.

#990: elvis presley (with scotty moore & d.j. fontana) - blue christmas (1968)

do you know that look in elvis’ eyes when he’s onstage with his childhood friends in his ‘68 comeback special? when d.j. fontana is thwacking an empty guitar case with his drum sticks, scotty moore is playing the case’s guitar as well as he did in 1955 when the three of them were still called the blue moon boys, and it all makes elvis so happy that he sings a wrong word after the chorus and has to muffle a vibrato giggle? that’s what i hope your holidays are like, friends, and your new year, too.
